In the very beginning the ‘Newbold Carnival Band was formed following a meeting in the Steelmelter's Pub in Chesterfield just after the Queens Coronation in 1953
. From the West End area of Newbold Moor in Chesterfield, with little experience and no finance, the hard working class community pulled together and participated in one way or another to help the movement forward.
