Tupton 21st July 2007
Just a Saturday engagement
to contend with this weekend at nearby Tupton and with the Carnival field
already ruled out, having succumbed to the incessant wet weather, credit
must be given to the organisers and Council for their persistence in salvaging
the day.
With the stallholders pitching their gazebos along the roadside on the grass verge down Green Street so that some semblance of the carnival spirit could prevail and using the Village Hall to house the entertainment everyone was prepared to enjoy the annual event. First the parade, the Musketeers along with the Sheffield Pipe Band, a Rock Group, floats and walking contingency the parade moved off under very heavy grey skies passing through the village. About halfway round and the fine drizzle started dampening the costumes but, not the enthusiasm of the participants as the parade reached it's conclusion outside the Village Hall. Inevetably the rain appeared to get a little heavier on and off throughout the afternoon, however, the programme wasn't disrupted too much, being performed by a variety of talents either in the body of the hall or on stage. The band performed their now familiar musical routine on stage in the packed hall, which was very well received by the public and organisers alike. Whilst waiting to perform the band turned the time to their advantage having a dress rehearsal with the number two uniform in readiness for our visit to Jersey 'Battle of Flowers' in two weeks time. This was the first siting of the original uniform for
many years but, it was a pleasure to see the members wearing it once again |
