Ravensknowle Carnival 29th June 2008

Arriving at Ravensknowle Park (Huddersfield) bright and early, giving the band members time to search out the "Bargains" on the charitable stalls before having to change into uniforms for the parade. Unfortunately half way round the route, the band were caught in a shower of rain that had been threatening from the start and for the second year in succession at this event, the band finished wet and bedraggled and with only a short break before the scheduled time for the display it looked a thorough soaking was imminent. As the 27 members took up their positions in the ranks in the teaming rain, in preparations for the entertaining the still large crowd, the rain suddenly ceased and the sun came out to shine on the arena setting.

Angels On Display

Thankfully this continued throughout the bands programme and by the end of the display the uniforms and in particular the white plumes had returned to their original fluffy state. A musical programme was scheduled to be performed on stage later and this again was well supported by a large gathering and basked in warm sunshine and greeted with envious applause as the audience chanted for an encore before the band departed the stage. Somehow during our stay at Ravensknowle our coach driver had decided Chesterfield had been moved somewhere up north, as we found ourselves heading up the M62 before emerging on the M1 at junction 41 and then deciding to head in the opposite direction after exiting the M1 at Barlborough, before finally arriving at our preferred destination.
