New Mills Carnival12th June 2010

After loading the coach at the ‘Hollingwood’ on its arrival from Eastwood on a dry warm morning, driver Sam soon had the band members looking towards the destination of New Mills for the annual ‘Miller’s Parade & Gala 2010 booking.
Once there the members were able to sit on the grassed banking for a while before having to dress in preparation for the Parade start. But before reaching the move-off point the Musketeers had to negotiate the steep cobbled incline ahead. Positioned once more towards the rear of the parade to enable the band to perform their dance sequences to the watching crowd along the streets and also inter-change with the ‘Buxton Billerettes’ as usual as the parade progressed up the main road to its destination at the Swizzels Matlow playing fields where the event was to be held again.
At 2:30 the Musketeers made their entrance into the usually tight arena, which called for some chicken stepping to accommodate the display programme throughout the 16 minutes, but non the less thoroughly enjoyed by the well supporting crowd. Now the members were able to change out of their uniforms before participating in the attractions around the field. With another day of banding scheduled for Sunday, everyone was soon back at the coach prepared to head for home and a date with the England World Cup kick-off later on TV.
