Morton Carnival 28th June 2008

After our brief skirmish with the weather last week, we were back to something approaching normality as we arrived in the geographical centre of England to participate in the Morton Carnival once again. Our choice for the 28th June, whereby we had attracted a further 19 enquiries for this particular date. I personally look forward to this one, as this is my chosen venue for missing the road parade in sympathy with my dodgy knees. One other change to the line-up was Alan being rested from bass drum due to a health problem giving Billy, the drum instructor, his big chance to shine on the parade and in the arena over the weekend.
With the parade causing some problems to other members, as this year it commenced from the bottom of the village through to the top end, before returning back down the route to the New Road Carnival field. The sound of the band leading the parade had attracted most of the villagers onto the ground, helping to boost the committees takings on our fund raising tombola stall throughout the afternoon.
At 3:00pm the 'Musketeers' were lined up and prepared to entertain the crowd with what was arguably the best display of the season, so far, compliments must go to everyone for their contributions, each week everthing seems to be getting better. The members now look forward to bettering this performance at tomorrows venue at Ravensknowle (Huddersfield).
