Bakewell Carnival 4th July 2009

On a cloudy but warm and humid morning the members set off individually for our 34th booking in the Bakewell Carnival and for the first time at this event, the band took the fund raising stall to push our Jersey coffers.

Arriving in the park early as per normal the members were able to relax and take things easy before changing to prepare for the traditional ‘Guard of Honour’ for the carnival queen crowning ceremony. But firstly a special photo call for everyone present today with our guest of honour Marco DiSora the Musketeers main sponsor for 2009.

Lining up behind the Bakewell Brass Band for the 3pm parade time move – off as the sky cleared and the sun blazed down on the thousands of people lining the streets of the town, the site was something to make the band rise to the occasion and with several stops arranged along the way for bands to show off to the crowds the Musketeers rose to the occasion.

Back on the recreation ground the members found time to remove their sweaty uniforms briefly before having to don them again for the display in the arena and with a good surface to perform on a very sound programme was presented.

Now was the time to change out of the uniform into something cooler whilst doing a little socialising together and good news on the fund raising with little competition from other stallholders, Sylvia and Tom with help from Malcolm had completely cleared out of prizes presenting a good return for the day all round.
