Bakewell Carnival 5th July 2008

Setting off for Bakewell Carnival, the ‘Musketeers’ longest running repeat engagement for the 32nd year.

Even though we awakened to drizzly weather we were still confident we wouldn’t get a soaking here, Bakewell as this aura about it.

This year for the first time in years we have a sword team out for the Queens Guard of Honour courtesy of Sara and her team. Not only undertaking the guard but, continuing along with Casha, Jemma and Jade after to create a new sword fight, which they intend performing in our second show at Colliers Wood on Thursday evening.

Taking up our usual place in the parade behind the Bakewell Brass Band in glorious sunshine, the organisers had scheduled several stops for the band to show off their prowess to the very large turnout in town for the event. Bravery was the order of the day though as massive blisters were endured on swollen feet.

Back at the Recreation ground the ‘Musketeers’ had set up their own camp site with Julies plastic sheeting tied between cars just in case the heavens did decide to open, making a fantastic marquee were loads of tea and coffee were served throughout the afternoon.

With everyone prepared for the display and the sun still shining, Billy was perched on the wall complete with camcorder ready to video the show which again excelled in standard, even with brave Jemma performing in stocking feet due to a massive blister bursting on her heel, what a pity the only puddle on the park happened to be in her path just before the end.

But the main point of the day was a dry uniform before Sunday’s visit to Warsop, hurray.
