Chapel en le Frith 19th June 2010

Arriving by cars on the carnival field at Brinsley, everyone joined in setting up the fundraising stall before relaxing together before preparing to change into uniform in time for the 1:00 pm street parade.
Opting to walk down to the starting point due to the fact that the ‘Musketeers’ were making a detour to play a few tunes for the residents of the ‘Moorland’ Residential Home prior to reaching Hall Road.

With a great turnout again on this hot sunny day it was nice to have Callum in uniform again, whilst on leave from his Army Training, everyone was eager to get the Chapel contest out of their system whilst here at Brinsley for the first time, but evidently hoping to prove that yesterday was just a blip with the basic marching.

Heading the parade along the main road back to the Carnival field, the band included a few dance routines along the way and also provided another stop outside the ‘Moorland’s’ to entertain the delighted residents and staff now seated by the roadside.

On arrival back at the cars, the band were confronted by the Parade Marshall gushing with enthusiasm over the presentation along the route from the ‘Musketeers’ saying “of all the bands they have had at the Carnival over the years we were superior to them all” and inviting the band to return again next year even before seeing our arena display scheduled for later in the afternoons entertainment programme.

Just after 3:00pm the band commenced their arena display before a large crowd, with all members’ intent on correcting the errors in alignment from the previous day and the feeling from the ranks on conclusion was this had been achieved. Every line, spacing and movement was spot on and everyone acknowledged that the day’s efforts had been a success. To prove a point and showing his approval the Bandmaster even used a wooden rule on the photographs to emphasize the correctness of the spacing (seriously).

With the programme and weekend entertainment now concluded, members were free to enjoy the pleasures of the carnival before departing for home.
